Author and illustrator Philip Heckman will deliver You Will All Be Punished unless the Guilty Party Confesses to Lester Public Library of Arpin on Monday, April 8, and has agreed to be available to the public between 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. to explain and answer any questions patrons and visitors may have about how he came to write a book residing in a card catalog.
The book, as described by author/illustrator Philip Heckman on his website, “tells the story of
one class at Charles Portis Middle School. When the teacher, Ms. Ashlee finds a cryptic note that seems to say, ‘I am afraid of you,’ she concludes one of her students is terrorizing another. The ‘evidence’ fits right into Ms. Ashlee’s detective fantasy.”
Young teens especially appreciate the unique and hands-on aspects of Punished. Unlike most books, readers need not start at page one, but may start at any point by simply opening one of the 15 drawers.
Young teens will also enjoy and relate to Heckman’s use of social media in the form of
tweeting as a tool for bullying.
Heckman grew up in a small northern Wisconsin town and lives near Madison, WI. Some of his
books include The Moon is Following Me, Waking Upside Down, and The Magic of Holography.
You Will Be Punished Unless the Guilty Party Confesses will be available to readers and the curious at Lester Public Library of Arpin through June before it continues its travels.
